Images to Screen Locally Made Short Film

Images Cinema will be screening "The Milker: The Untold Story," a short film made by David Rosenthal and Rachel Payne, June 27 and July 4 at 6:50pm.

"The Milker" is the latest of young filmmaker David Rosenthal's creations. This tongue-and-cheek documentary retells the story of his and Rachel Payne's journey to make a raft out of old milk cartons for a high school biology project. The short explores David and Rachel's teenage idiosyncrasies as they come face to face with the more grueling side of waste treatment.

Online Cultural Guide to North Berkshire Begins Test Phase

Williamstown, Mass. - artSTART, a new online culture guide to the northern Berkshires is up and running in its test phase at http://www.berkshireartstart.org. The sign-up link is located in the top right corner.

Any artist, organization, or business that identifies as contributing to the cultural wealth of the northern Berkshires is invited to add their culture profiles. 

Save the date for the artSTART launch party on Monday, July 17 at  5:30pm. More details will follow!

Williamstown Parade July 4

Williamstown, Mass. - See a gang of Al Gores, a bevy of Abe Lincolns, a flock of penguins, a brigade of hybrid vehicles and much more!

The annual Williamstown 4th of July Parade will start at 9:45 am on Tuesday, July 4 at the Williamstown Elementary School on Church Street  and proceed down Southworth Street, up Main Street, and down Spring Street to Weston Field.

The Declaration of Independence will be read at 11:30am and 1pm by members of the Williamstown Theatre Festival at Chapin Library in Stetson Hall on the Williams College campus.

Parade will be followed by snacks (hotdogs, soda, cake) on Weston Field with music at Tunnel City Coffee.

Kick-Off for Judith Knight DA Campaign, June 21

Judith C. Knight of Lee will be kicking off her campaign for Berkshire County District Attorney at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21. Knight is challenging Berkshire District Attorney David F. Capeless in a Democratic primary September 19.

A Stockbridge native, Knight earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and her Juris Doctor at Washington and Lee University Law School in Virginia. She is currently a partner in the Great Barrington law firm of Hellman, Shearn & Knight, where she handles a wide variety of both criminal and civil cases.

Supporters plan to gather at the fire station on Columbus Ave. in Pittsfield, which is the second left heading north on North Street, between 5:30 and 5:45. They will then walk to the intersection of Circular Ave. and Francis Ave., where Knight will make her announcement. Park at the parking garage next to the fire station.

Hillside Cemetery History Walk Rescheduled for June 24

North Adams, Mass. - Due to the weather, local historian Paul W. Marino has postponed his Hill Side Cemetery Walk to Saturday, June 24. The Walk will cover the north section only, and is especially suitable for children and families.

At 208 years old, Hillside is North Adams oldest municipal cemetery, its second oldest existing cemetery, and its third oldest overall. Many of the city' founders and shapers are buried there, including the towns first Postmaster, and its first millionaire and a man who was a personal friend to two U.S. Presidents. A physician who established a school in is Hillside, along with the first local educator to have a school named for him, and the only woman to be so honored; an attorney who invented a railroad brake, and a man who died a heros death in the construction of the Hoosac Tunnel, a local man who was an eye-witness to President Lincoln' delivery of the Gettysburg Address, and a world-famous archaeologist.

Rich in history, Hillside is equally rich in fine stonework, including the several statues, the breath-taking Isbell monument. Two monuments are registered with the Smithsonian Institute, through the Save Outdoor Sculpture program; one of these---the John Henry Haynes marker---is most likely the only one of its kind in the world.

The Walk starts at 2:30pm at the top of the hill off Brown Street. Interested persons are advised to dress for the weather. They should wear a hat with a wide brim and a good pair of walking shoes, and carry a canteen or a bottle of water, and be prepared to have their ears talked off. In addition, they should remember to bring any children they have handy, as this Walk is especially suitable for them, and concludes with a treasure hunt.

Hilltown Hoop-La: Storytelling & an Ice Cream Social in Savoy June 17

Savoy, Mass. - Hill Town Hoopla, a celebration of the cultural Heritage of Savoy and the surrounding
Hill Town Communities, will be held on Saturdaqy, June 17 at the Starseed Healing Sanctuary, 672 Chapel Road, Savoy, MA.

At noon take a Welcome Tour of Starseed explaining the land and structures, formerly the Old Wing Creamery, dating back to 1792 and new additions.

At 1:30 pm enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream social  with live music by the Chapel Hill Band.  MCLA faculty member Mary Ellen Cohane will facilitate a storytelling circle with local writers Nelson Harris and Jane Phinney, as well as stories by children and the stories you bring.

From 4-6 pm the Annual Starseed Silent and Live Auction will take place in the Carriage House.  The proceeds of this auction go toward community projects and the upkeep of Starseed Healing Sanctuary.

Kids First! Films at Images June 16 & 17

Williamstown, Mass. - The Kids First! Film Club at Images Cinema is offering a variety of family-friendly films on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17.  Admission to both shows is $2.

On Friday, June 16 at 3 pm "Little Manhattan" (ages 8+, 84 minutes) will be shown. 
Plot Synopsis: Ten-year-old Gabe was just a normal kid growing up in Manhattan, untill Rosemary Telesco walked into his life. But, before Gabe can tell Rosemary how he feels, she tells him she will not being going to public school any more. Gabe has a lot more to learn about life, love and girls.

"Little Manhattan" will be repeated again as one of four films shown on Saturday, June 17 at 10 am. Other films include:

"Peep: Dry Duck" (ages 2-5, 20 minutes)
Plot Synopsis: The animated series Peep and the Big Wide World, gives wings to the innovative idea of teaching science to preschoolers with wry and distinctive visual humor, charming plotlines, and lovable characters.

"Lon Popo" (ages 4-8, 12 minutes)
Plot Synopsis: A Chinese version of Little Red Riding Hood that combines ancient Chinese panel art techniques with a contemporary palette of watercolors and pastels.

"Stars, Stars, Stars" (ages 7-9, 10 minutes)
Plot Synopsis: This story takes you on a colorful ride through outer space to visit planets and stars, using collage-style animation.

WCMA Announces Summer Camp: Rock Paper Scissors!

Williamstown, Mass. - The Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA) is hosting Summer Camp 2006 for children, ages 8-11. Campers will explore the many ways that artists create artwork with paper as a key element. For inspiration, they will visit new WCMA exhibitions ranging from book arts to urban sculptures made from ordinary objects like pots and pans. Campers will make Rock Paper Scissors sculptures using river rocks, paper objects, and kids scissors and then digitally photograph their sculptures. They will also create painted poems combining their watercolors and poetry. From these materials, campers will then create their own unique handmade books. Outdoor games and gallery hunts are also part of the fun. Offered Tuesday, July 11 through Friday, July 14, 10:00 am-12:30 pm. This program is limited to 15 participants and there is a material fee of $50. Pre-registration is required. Please call 597-2038 to register or for more information.

The Williams College Museum of Art is located on Main Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am-5 pm and Sunday from 1-5 pm.
