WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Developer Michael Deep says if he doesn't get a zoning change approved for a timeshare hotel project at the Waubeeka Golf links in South Williamstown, he will close the money-losing 18-hole public golf course and build 120 units of affordable housing on the 200-acre parcel.
"If I don't get this zoning change approved, I'm going to build 120 units of affordable housing there," Deep said. "The golf course is gone."
Deep's comments came last week during a chance encounter with Bill Densmore, owner-author of the GreylockNews.com blog, in the lobby of Williamstown Town Hall. Following the unexpected discussion, Densmore emailed to Deep his recollections of the exchange, and Deep responded by email in detail.
