The future of public-service journalism?

Thanks to Jack Dew at the Berkshire Eagle for focusing attention today on the future of journalism. If the subject interests you, you can find more at the "beta" site of  UMass Media Giraffe Project and at MGP's llink and reference blog and general blog site. For reports on news-industry gatherings, see http://www.newshare.org. And finally, please add a comment to this post if you have any suggestions for how you'd like to see GreylockNews.COM evolve. Or just do something low-tech -- call 413-458-8001.  Is the emergence of "blogs" or "citizen journalism" an indication of dissatisfaction with established media? If so, why? And what will sustain all this grassroots effort -- if not advertising?

Bill,
This method of news seems like a wonderful way to keep community together and informed on a whole range of things. Thank you for this pertinent idea. Carolyn

Bill: This is great! Since, as word has it, Linda Carman will no longer be writing about our local news in the Advocate, this site provides an alternative to accepting local news only through the Transcript or the Eagle. . . and its interactive! I'm all in favor! Thanks for putting this together!

About this website

Email has become a vital method for exchanging community information, ideas and initiatives. But many of us are overwhelmed by the amount of email we receive . . . some of it "spam".

A solution is a community website -- a weblog or "blog" which can be an information home base. Open to all to "post" and ready and waiting when you want it -- instead of crowding your mailbox.

That's the intent behind GreylockNews.COM . . . Bill Densmore
