MAY 15 THROUGH MAY 17 AT BERKSHIRE RESTAURANTS
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.- In celebration of the spring season,"Berkshire Grown" will host a culinary celebration of farmed and foraged seasonal foods at area restaurants from Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17.
Farmed + Foraged: A Weekend of Spring Flavors - will feature wild and local edibles from area forests, fields and farms. A dozen-plus participating restaurants throughout the region will offer three-course prix fixe menus and a la carte selections to celebrate this farm-to-table dining event - featuring an array of wild edibles, locally grown produce, Berkshire artisan cheeses, heritage breed meats, locally made bread and chocolate, and Berkshire-crafted beer and spirits. Pricing varies at each location.
In north and central Berkshire county, participating restaurants include Cafe Latino at MASS MoCA, Gramercy Bistro, Mezze Bistro + Bar and Pittsfield Brew Works. Participants in south county include allium restaurant + bar, Barrington Brewery, Cafe Adam, Castle Street Cafe, EnlightenNext, The Inn at Sweet Water Farm, John Andrews Restaurant, The Old Inn on the Green, Pearl's Restaurant, The Point at Thornewood Inn, The Red Lion Inn, Route 7 Grill, Stage Coach Tavern and The Williamsville Inn.
As has been the tradition for many years, The Red Lion Inn will feature sustainable dinner specials on Sundays and Mondays throughout the month of May with a la carte menu items such as chilled arugula soup with rare lamb salad; house-made Spanish chorizo with potatoes, cress and cattail; seared shad with lemon-infused fiddleheads; braised pork belly with foraged mushrooms; and, heritage-breed poached egg with greens and roasted ramp vinaigrette.
Mezze Restaurant Group will spotlight locally grown items with "Farmed + Foraged" prix fixe menus. allium will feature foraged edibles including spring ramps and the first of spring greens from Farm Girl Farm, Blue Hill Farm and Equinox Farms plus Berkshire Mountain Bakery breads and spirits from Berkshire Mountain Distillers. Mezze Bistro + Bar will offer a menu highlighting foraged edibles and locally grown items from Hidden Pasture Farm, Mighty Food Farm and Cricket Creek Farm, to name a few.
The Inn at Sweet Water Farm will offer breakfast on Saturday and Sunday with a "Farmed + Foraged" spring menu featuring egg dishes from their very own chickens including a ramp and Monterey chevre omelet, creamed morels on toast with a poached egg, and a fiddlehead fern frittata.
"We are encouraging all foodies to come out and celebrate the beginnings of spring with delicious dishes highlighting the local harvest. Although our crops are limited at this time of year, the fiddleheads and ramps, the maple syrup and mushrooms, and the meats, cheeses and breads make for an exceptional meal, especially when prepared by our region's very talented chefs," said Nancy Thomas, owner of Mezze Restaurant Group and co-organizer of this county-wide event.
