Mt. Greylock Bowl Open April 4-6

North Adams, MA - Come to Mount Greylock Bowl Friday night, April 4, Saturday April 5 and Sunday, April 6th for the Mt. Greylock Bowl Open. For the second consecutive year, the best professional bowlers in the East Region of the United States converge on the City of North Adams for an exciting weekend of strikes and spares. MCLA Hosts Speaker on DUI Lessons March 4

North Adams, MA - The Athletic Department and the Office of Student Development at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will host guest speaker Mark Sterner with “DUI: A Powerful Lesson,” on Tuesday, March 4, at 7 PM in the Amsler Campus Center gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public.

Public Skating at Viet Nam Veterans Rink

All those who are inspired to take to the ice after watching the Bay State Skate can enjoy public skating at the North Adams Viet Nam Veteran’s Memorial Skating Rink, Monday through Friday from 11- 2 PM, Saturday and Sunday from 2 – 4 PM and Friday nights from 7-9 PM. Volunteers Needed for Bay State Winter Games

Volunteers are needed for the Bay State Winter Games this weekend, for all events. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Duties include general help and setup, registration, selling merchandise, timekeeping, course support, and information. To find out more, call 781.932.6555.

MCLA Celebrates Coach Shrewcraft's Career

North Adams, MA - MCLA will celebrate the career of Ron Shewcraft, recently retired men’s soccer coach on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Zavattaro Athletic Complex on West Shaft Road, beginning at 12:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public.

The day’s festivities will begin with refreshments and tailgating before the final men’s soccer home game of the season. College President Mary Grant and Shewcraft will make remarks during halftime. After the game, all are invited back to Murdock Hall on campus for a reception and the continued celebration.

Soccer coach for the past 30 years, Shewcraft recently retired with a .604 winning percentage, finishing 292-184-46. Entering the fall 2006 season, he ranked 29th in total career coaching victories among all NCAA Division III coaches and 19th among active coaches. In addition, he ranked 8th in total career victories among coaches from public institutions in Division III. His teams won five MASCAC Championships and in 1978 won the NCAA Division III New England Championship. That same year they advanced to the prestigious NCAA “Final Four.”

An uncertain future: MGRHS grid team seeks recovery from three losses

Mount Greylock Regional High School's football team is searching for the right formula after three losses in as many games this season. They take on Monument Mountain on Friday night. Despite the best efforts of junior running-back Ian Jones and his comrade sophomore Kyle Quagliano, who carried the ball for a combined 217 yards on the ground, the Mounties fell, 18-20, on Saturday to Pittsfield High School’s Generals, lead by quarterback Jim Ostrikis’s 173 passing yards.

MCLA Golf Classic September 17 at Waubeeka

North Adams, MA - On Monday, Sept. 17, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts will host their 11th Annual Golf Classic at Waubeeka Golf Links from 11:00 – 7:00 PM, this year honoring College Athletic Hall of Fame basketballer Richard Syriac, a 1971 graduate. A four-year player on the team, Syriac was selected to the MASCAC All-Star squad for three years.  He also set a record for points scored which stood until the mid 1980s. "Cats" to Play Torrington Twisters at Home July 18

North Adams, MA - The SteepleCats are at Joe Wolfe Field on Wednesday, July 18, versus the Torrington Twisters, in a make-up game from July 4. The game starts at 7:00, gates open at 6:00 PM. The ‘Cats home stand continues on Thursday, July 19, when they face the Newport Gulls. On Saturday July 21, the SteepleCats return to North Adams to host the Manchester Silk Worms.
