AUDIO: JTM at Pointer --Marketing "journalism that matters"

What would seed heightened public awareness of the need to sustain "journalism that matters"? Some 15 people considered this question on Tues., March 3, 2009, during a breakout session at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Fla. The 80-minute session was part of the event, "Journalism That Matters: The New News Ecology." We broke the discussion into two pieces: -- What is journalism and what kinds of information do communities need? -- How do we make sure the public recognizes the value of this information? AUDIO: Ideas for bringing crowdpower into your newsroom

This is an afternoon session at the Duke Next Newsroom seminar in Durham, N.C. Randy Covington spent a career in print reporter and TV news management. Now he heads the IFRA Newsplex, a state-of-the-art training facility at the University of South Carolina.
