Now is the time for journalists and philanthropy to join in an effort to fund and sustain non-profit, public interest journalism, says MGP2006 alum Charles Lewis. Lewis, founder of the Center for Public Integrity, one of the most most-noted and longest-runnings efforts at non-profit, investigative journalism, has written a 50-page paper for the Kennedy School of Government's Shorenstein Center. "Never in our lifetime has there argueably been a greater public need for independent, high-quality journalism in the United States," he writes, adding: "For America's major foundations, this could be another PBS/NPR moment, in which great, collaborative vision and substantial resources together can accomplish something lasting and historic."
