Katie Couric's challenge transcends ratings competition to fundamentals of network newscasts, Fouhy writes

A tightly written bit of wisdom from MGP2006 presenter Ed Fouhy is on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette op-ed website. Fouhy's key message is that Katie Couric's challenge on the CBS Evening News goes far beyond being the first solo woman anchor or a fight for ratings. Couric is also fighting the changing fundamentals of network newscasts, he suggests. Fouhy is a retired Washington bureau chief for three major networks who advises multiple journalism initiatives, helped start Stateline.org for the Pew Center on the States and is now chair of  the advisory board of electionline.org.
