The Philadelphia experiments: Signup to participate in Thursday's live videoconference

Thursday will be an historic moment in American journalism. It is believed to be the first time major metro dailies -- the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News -- have been returned to local ownership from chain ownership. At the same time, a working group of citizens in the city where American independence sprang are considering what the next news organization will look like. To describe the change, and how Philadelphia media bloggers, reformers and consumers -- plus insiders at the two papers -- are reacting, MGP2006 is planning a live videoconference session between Amherst and Philadelphia from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., June 29.  The UMass academic videoconferencing center and a similar facility at the University of Pennsylvania will be used to make the live link. Among those present in Amherst will be Chris Satullo, editor-page editor of The Inquirer. Among those present in Philadelphia will be Wendy Warren, an assistant managing editor of The Daily News.
Space is limited in the videoconference facility at UMass to 30 people. To participate, follow instructions at the MGP2006 wiki page, "Philadelphia."
