North Adams, MA - Do you enjoy working with youth? Like learning new things, listening to music, watching sports? Want to give back to the community? Well this is your opportunity! On Thursday, September 17 at 7pm Northern Berkshire Community Television Corporation (NBCTC) is holding an Open House for adults interested in helping with television coverage of local school events.
The 2008-2009 school-year was an excellent one for high school coverage at NBCTC. In addition to our presentation of classroom activities, musical performances, and special events, Channel 16 greatly expanded its sports coverage. NBCTC aired twenty-five sports shows in the fall alone, consisting of boys and girls soccer and football. The spring saw boys and girls basketball and hockey.
Community comments on the coverage were all positive. Their simple request was can we do more in 2009-2010? NBCTC is a volunteer-based operation with limited staffing, but with your help, the answer is a resounding yes!
Our goal is to develop a dedicated core of adult volunteers from the community to assist with the events. Adults can choose their time, commitment level, and activity. All levels of experience or inexperience are welcome! With multiple camera operators, NBCTC can bring along the portable system and teach adults how to direct/produce a more elaborate show. Learning how to edit is also an option. The same training will be used to prepare volunteers for all school events. We are also looking for sports announcers.
As a service agency, our goal is to provide the community access to the airwaves through training and use of equipment. So many parents, grandparents, school staff, and community members want to see more of the positive side of local education; NBCTC needs you to make that a reality! Call NBCTC at (413) 663-9006, or e-mail [email protected] for more information, to sign-up for the Open House, or to schedule individual times for training.
