The discussion took place Nov. 17, 2009, in the Fred W. Smith Forum at the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia, Mo. Approximately 23 editors, scholars and students were part of the discussion, on the second day of the event: "Public Trust Through Public Engagement," an ethics-and-values forum organized by the American Society of News Editors.
