It's a shame that the nation's newspapers haven't figured out that they have to retool themselves on the web for what they have historically been in print -- geographically-focused "social networking sites."

Microsoft's biggest threat is MySpace, not Google, according to PayPal co-founder Max Levchin. Social networks are becoming operating systems in the sense that they create consumer lock-in through control of user data. "No one wants to collaborate." Web 2.0 "doesn't exist."
